 Academic Education

The Academic Education Ministry provides educational programs and support to students and parents that are designed to bridge educational gaps and promote academic excellence. Support from this ministry includes tutoring, workshops, award recognition, college visits, and an annual graduation recognition program.

Children’s Ministry

The Children’s Ministry provides a year-round service to children in pre-school through 5th grade. Children’s Ministry programs include:  Children’s Church, which meets Sundays at 11:00 am in the Chapel. The service models the main sanctuary service in an effort to prepare the children to transition to the main service after 5th grade;  Salvation Station, which is the summer program of Children’s Church, meeting each Sunday in July and August; and the Little Lambs Nursery, which is open during the 11:00 am service to children ages 6 months to 3 years, providing them with an age appropriate curriculum, games, play, reading, and scripture memorization through song.

Juvenile Detention Ministry

The Juvenile Detention Ministry provides outreach to youth detained at the Prince William County (PWC) Juvenile Detention Home (JDH). Participation in this ministry is open to adult members who successfully complete the necessary training and screening required by PWC. Servants meet each Sunday morning at 10:30 a.m. at JDH to facilitate Bible Study and discussions of the day. They also meet at JDH on the second Saturday of each month to share in physical activities and games.


Married Couples Ministry

The Married Couples Ministry enriches marriages by offering monthly fellowships that build supportive relationships amongst other couples and teach marriage God’s way. This ministry focuses on shared faith, trust, understanding, commitment, love and respect for your mate. It also provides resources that aid in making good marriages better. The ministry meets the fourth Sunday of each month from 3-5 pm at FMZBC.

Men’s Ministry

The Men’s Ministry supports men in their Christian walk and development toward spiritual maturity. Men are challenged through Bible study, prayer meetings, and times of fellowship. Additionally, the ministry holds an annual Men’s Conference in March of each year.  The Men’s Ministry of First Mount Zion is designed to develop productive relationships between Christian men, both within and outside of the FMZBC family. The ministry meets the second Saturday of each month from 9 – 11 a.m. at FMZBC.

New Horizon Health Support Group (NHHSG)

The NHHSG was created to journey with families and individuals who experience chronic illnesses by providing on-going prayer and support in various areas of need as requested by the families.  This ministry does not have a regularly scheduled meeting time, but insteads comes together as needed and in support of other health related ministry sessions held throughout the Church.

Senior’s Ministry

The Senior’s Ministry seeks to meet the needs of those 55 and older, as well as incorporate their wisdom and gifts into the overall ministry of the church. Seniors participate in a variety of activities, including Bible Study, day trips, craft workshops, safety and exercise activities. The ministry meets over lunch twice a month (on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays) from 12:30 – 2:30 p.m. The ministry is open to members and non-members. There is no cost for lunch.


Single’s Ministry

The Single’s Ministry uses a holistic approach in developing spiritual, personal and professional growth in single Christians through dynamic teaching, great fellowship, exciting worship and workshops. This ministry is for single adults of all ages and is designed to foster an atmosphere of mutual learning and encouragement. The diverse life experiences provide many different perspectives and interesting discussions on being single. The ministry meets twice a month on the 2nd and 4th Sundays from 3 – 5 pm at FMZBC.

Spiritual Gifts Ministry

The Spiritual Gifts Ministry helps individuals understand what Spiritual Gifts are, who gives them, why they are given, and how they are to be used.  Furthermore, this ministry administers a spiritual gifts assessment to help one identify his or her spiritual gifts. The Spiritual Gifts Ministry holds a workshop from 8:30 a.m. – 12 noon once a quarter and for specific groups, as requested.

Sunday School Ministry

The Sunday School Ministry maintains a Christian atmosphere where individuals and families receive sound instruction in the Word of God. Every class has as a goal to lead people to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ, make disciples and train them to live and serve under the Lordship of Jesus Christ. Sunday School has 2 adults classes that meet at 7 a.m. each Sunday. Adult and Youth classes (pre K – 12th grade) meet each Sunday at 9:45 a.m.

Vacation Bible School

Vacation Bible School (VBS) is an age-graded, Bible-centered week of classroom instruction and recreation designed to strengthen Christians in their commitment to Christ and inform non-believers about Him. This program is centered around reaching and nurturing children inside and outside of the church through Bible study, songs, arts and crafts. VBS is offered to children in pre K – 12th grade during the last week of July at First Mount Zion.

Women’s Ministry

The Women’s Ministry provides spiritual support and fellowship for adult women through monthly prayer and bible study. This ministry also holds an Annual Women’s Conference the second weekend in September of each year.  Additionally, the ministry serves the community through various outreach opportunities.  All women (members and non-members) are welcome to join the monthly fellowship each second Saturday of the month, from 9 a.m. – 11 a.m. at First Mount Zion.

The Children of God Youth Ministry provides programs and ministry opportunities that enhance spiritual growth; teach youth how to build healthy relationships; assess spiritual giftedness; and empower youth to impact the kingdom.
